Two Car Seat Covers for Twenty Bucks

 

I hear the brush of faux-fur covers, the demi-gods of her saloon.

I’ve done my research too. Sugar Button I say,

I want you to know I’ve rolled every stone,

I’ve travelled every avenue.

 

The time you were an eye-witness in an accidental shooting.

The time you placed fifty-eighth in a fun-run.

The time you went to a dog-training conference.

 

I’ve spent months on work-related expenses

just so I could ask to be reimbursed.

 

You said to let you know if I needed anything else.

And much later, on the spur of some sharp impulse.

 

The bead of your hair rolled between my fingers,

that little shudder through the skin of your neck.

I can only imagine what it means.
