Jenny Clay spent a year at Whitireia in 1999 exploring different forms of writing. This helped her develop the text for a picture book, The Smile in the Moon, and to take her poetry into a more public arena. Her poetry has been published in Takahē, Poetry Pudding, Live Lines, Poetry NZ and New Zealand Poetry Society anthologies; and on the e‑zines Blackmail Press, Fib Review and Shot Glass Journal. In 2013 she was winner of the NZSA Kevin Ireland poetry competition. She also writes non-fiction and is currently working on a nineteenth-century biography.
