Rachel Tobin

the night is steel blue

the night is steel blue
wind-wild, unquiet
i turn my face to you

there are hundreds of ways to
show mercy       relinquish light
the night is steel blue

if i could surrender too
one thread as gracefully as day pranams to night
i would turn my heart to you

bow to the one who
burns the weapons of my bone-bright
war       the night is steel blue

you lift my face to the new
there is no tiredness in this cauldron of night
i turn my breath to you

coax open my wine-true
eye the way you might
seduce me         i turn my love to you

the night is steel blue
