Hana Pera Aoake

Hana Pera Aoake (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Mahuta, Ngāti Hinerangi, Waikato/Tainui) is an artist and writer who fled the land of the wrong white crowd and the suffocation of Aotearoa. They are a Gemini currently living in Lisbon, because there’s sunshine 250 days a year, and they have depression. Hana holds a useless MFA (First Class Honours) from Massey University, Whiti o Rehua School of Art. They have had writing published by The SpinoffRunwayun Magazine, First DraftOverlandFanzine and lots of others. In 2020 they will be pursuing an independent study programme at Maumaus and undertaking a residency in Guna Yala as part of the indigenous-led La Wayaka Current’s Tropic 08°N programme. Their goal for 2019 is to stay alive, stop falling in love with men on the internet and live on sardines and €1 beer.
