Erica Challis was born in Hastings and brought up in Canberra. She played horn in the Auckland Philharmonia before moving to Wellington to train as a journalist. She has previously been published in Takahē and various lifestyle and pop culture magazines and edited and contributed articles to the book The People’s Guide to Tolkien. She was a founding editor of the Tolkien fan website theonering.net.
